You would prepare for your plan C-section in much the same way that you would prepare for any elective surgery. 1 to 2 days before the surgery, you'll have your blood drawn. You're gonna get tested for your complete blood count, your type and antibody screen, and also bleeding time. After your labs are done, the night before your surgery, you're not gonna eat or drink anything after midnight. So, enjoy a fabulous meal with your family and don't plan on eating anything after midnight that night. Why do we want you to have an empty stomach for at least 8 hours before your surgery? Well, if there's food or water in your stomach, then when you're lying back on the table and you have this final anesthesia in, it's easier to aspirate or to have some of the particles from your stomach go in to your lungs and that can cause complication. So, no eating or drinking within 8 hours of your surgery. We want you to pack your bags for 3 to 4 nights stay, not only for you but for your husband, and make sure to bring snacks for him because he might get a little hungry when you're not allowed to eat. And, finally, your C-section scar is gonna be in your pubic hairline. And, the nurse is gonna shave you with a hospital grade razor. So, if you prefer, and I certainly recommend, that you make sure that area is free of hair by either waxing or using a cream or shaving yourself, but you're gonna wanna do that before you come to the hospital as well. And, ultimately, you wanna get a good night sleep the night before your C-section because you're gonna have a very exciting day the next day and you're gonna be well rested and enjoy it.
