Advice For Parents Considering In Vitro Fertilization

Nov 22, 2016

Couples have a lot of questions when they’re considering In Vitro Fertilization (IVF). The process is still new, and many couples don’t know much about the treatment and it’s hard to decide it’s the right option for them. They may be nervous about what people will think or about what their child will look like when he is born. If you are dealing with these concerns, here are some important things to remember.

In Vitro Fertilization and Embryo Transfer was developed in late seventies and early eighties to help women experiencing infertility due to tubal damage. In IVF, the ovaries are stimulated to produce multiple eggs. These eggs are taken from the ovary, along with a sperm sample, and fertilization occurs in an In Vitro dish where the embryo grows for 3 to 5 days before being transfered back into the uterus. One important thing to remember is that even though the child is being made through IVF, it is still your child. It is your eggs and your partner’s sperm that are being used, and it is an embryo containing your genes that will be injected into your uterus. According to fertility specialist Dr. Richard Marrs, IVF is simply a way to bypass the fallopian tubes. Fertility specialist Dr. Hal Danzer describes In Vitro Fertilization as a way of taking a years' worth of fertility and putting it into one cycle. You will still be able to carry your baby and have a normal pregnancy even if it starts with IVF. All IVF does is take care of the part of the pregnancy that your body is rejecting. It will help you have a healthy and happy baby in nine months.

Another thing to remember is that any pain or confusion you feel in not being able to conceive will end. Dani Klein Modisett says that when she was having a hard time conceiving it felt like nothing would ever work. However, she learned that if you keep trying methods such as IVF, you will achieve your dream of having a child. The other thing to remember is that it might not happen exactly like you pictured it would. But with modern technology and procedures like IVF helping you, your dream can be achieved.

IVF is an expensive endeavor, however, especially in comparison to natural intercourse. Make sure to plan ahead with your partner and decide what kind of financial and emotional committment you can give to the IVF process before you begin treatments.

The most important thing that couples struggling with conceiving should remember is that there are alternative ways to get pregnant besides just natural intercourse. It can be hard facing the fact that there is something blocking you from getting pregnant naturally, but once you do understand that, you’ll be able to explore other ways to achieve pregnancy. Be sure to talk to your doctor about IVF. They’ll be able to give you all of the details you need to feel comfortable with it. By using IVF you’ll be one step closer to having the child you have wished for.
