There is no Fourth Amendment right to privacy. As a prosecutor, as a mom, I urge parents to snoop on their kids. I urge parents to look at what's going on online, to read their posts, to look through their phone. The only way that you can figure out what your kids are doing is to take the information that you garner online and connect that with what you see in real life. I can tell you, for me, when my step-son started dating; he was acting a little bit weird and he was wearing a turtle neck. All of a sudden, I was like, "Okay. That's a little bit strange, what's going on?" All I needed to do was go over to Facebook to realize that he had a girlfriend and he had a hickey on his neck. I didn't need to have even one conversation before I was able to connect what was happening in real life and what was going on online, and put them together to be able understand what was happening. We, as parents, have the opportunity now, with the internet with technology, to know more about our kids than our parents ever had. Our parents would have to rely on snooping via journals or snooping based on what they overheard on the phone or the back of a carpool lane. Now you can hear that information and do some additional fact-checking with what's going on online. Be able to get into the minds and brains of our kids to really know what's going on.
