Opening communication with teens and tweens

The way I get my teen and tween to open up and communicate with me is by, one, I talk about my experiences and myself; which then opens them up to tell me about their experiences or what's happening with their friends. So we have an open communication going and they are more comfortable talking to me, after I've talked with them about what's happening with me. The other thing I do is have conversations card. If we are at the dinner table or we are waiting in line at Disney Land. The conversation cards just have interesting questions, which leads your kids to telling you stuff about themselves that you never knew. I've learned a lot about my kids from conversation cards.
