A home birth is legally recorded using the birth record, the home birth record that the midwife will give you following the birth. She completes the form that day, and signs it. It is a legal document. You take that record down to -- I believe the Department of Records and Births. Basically, you need that record to prove that you had a home birth. They record all of that information, who the midwife was. Definitely, I know the mother has to be there with the baby. I believe the father is optional. They do not have to be there. It is a good idea to have both parents there, if possible. At that time, once you fill out the paperwork, and they will just bring it to another department and they will process it immediately. You get your certificate.
