Some of the benefits of birthing at home versus a hospital is that you get to create the kind of birth that you envision, for example, at my different homebirths I had classical music playing, I was able to prepare delicious food, I was able to invite people and it’s just very personal. I also feel that you’re not in a sterile hospital environment and there is not a bunch of people coming through your birthing experience. And you also have only your family’s germs. To me that was really important. I really wanted not a bunch of other people’s germs. And immediately after the birth you can bond with your baby. Nobody’s whisking your baby away from you. It’s just you, the midwife, doula and you are bonding with your baby.
