There is a lot of overlap between ADHD and Bipolar Disorder.
First of all, Bipolar is, thankfully, far less common. Bipolar Disorder is marked by extreme agitation, extreme anger, tantrums that last for hours. It seems that it's going on for longer than the human constitution can maintain. That's the hallmark of Bipolar, plus, it's episodic; it's cyclical.
ADD is not episodic or cyclical. Plus, there's usually a genetic history when you have Bipolar Disorder. Those are three of the hallmark differences between the two.
You need a professional to really make that diagnosis though. So don't think that you, as a parent, can sort those out. Make sure you seek the help of a professional for a proper diagnosis.
