When should families start thinking about encouraging their children to get athletic scholarships? That's an interesting and thought-provoking question because junior athletics is an incredibly overwhelming, time-consuming commitment on the part of families, and it's a very big financial commitment as well. So if your child truly has a passion for that activity and is living and eating and breathing a sport, whether it's baseball or soccer or gymnastics or whatever have you, encourage them for the love of that sport. And if the end result is the athletic scholarship, sobeit. But those are still very competitive. Not every child that plays junior athletics gets college athletics scholarships. So don't have that be the overriding reason to do the junior athletics; you do it because your child loves it, wants to do it all the time, and then if the end result leads to college scholarship, more the better. But the consideration of time and energy and financial commitment that is involved in participating in that sport really needs to be weighed on the return of the investment; what are the odds of really getting that college scholarship in the end?
