When we talk about thinking about college in middle school, we really want to take that with a grain of salt. There is so much pressure on high school students nowadays to think about their future and think about their college. We really don't want to ruin this childhood with middle school pressure. We want to be careful that we are not piling it on too thick. There is a couple of areas that I see frequently that are mistakes parents make that should have been addressed in middle school. They revolve around math and foreign language. Colleges really like to see four years of math. They love to see that senior year with an advanced math course. It is very difficult to take that advanced math as an Eight Grader. When you are talking about middle school, try to find one that offers Algebra in Eighth Grade. That's an important feature to look into. As far as a foreign language goes, again, it is difficult to get through an AP level foreign language if you haven't started the foreign language in middle school.
