Transcription:
Dealing with a child who is denying one part of their ethnicity or their background is really a form of self-hatred, in a way. It's a form of not accepting yourself. I would want to know, with my child, where this was coming from. Was this coming from something that was happening at school? Is it something that is happening with friends? Is it internal? I would really try to identify the source of this feeling of non-acceptance of this part of who they are, and then begin having conversations about why its important to love your entire self, your entire background, and both sides of your heritage. Feel good about who you are as a mixed person. Feel positive and unique and special.
