So what are the common food allergens? There's 8 of them that together make up about 90% of all food allergy reactions. And those are milk, eggs, peanuts, tree nuts, fish, shellfish, soy and wheat. Now kids can have allergies to other things, but those are so common that they have to show up on labels, in case somebody's allergic to them. Food allergies are important topic because they're rapidly increasing. Now, parents often ask me, "Is this real? Are we just diagnosing it more?" It's real. Food allergies have been going up very rapidly since about 1996, along with other kinds of allergies. It's important for parents to understand them and know what to do and how to prevent them.
