Often women are told that if they had postpartum depression after the first child, that was only because it was the first experience and the first kid and they didn't know enough. That is not true. That is a myth. If a woman has had postpartum depression with her first child or any of her children, any subsequent delivery, she is at risk by about 50 to 60 percent. The great news is that with a solid plan of action, you can at least greatly minimize the severity of that bout of depression, and sometimes completely avoid it. In "Postpartum Depression for Dummies," there is actually a whole chapter set up to help women how to avoid another postpartum depression.
