Minor gets arrested a lot of what happened is going to be dependent on how serious the crime is. If it is a less serious crime, then the lesson graffiti, possession of marijuana or alcohol they are probably going to be given a citation and you as a parent is given a citation and two of you are going to go to court together. If its a more serious crime, they maybe arrested and take in to court in custody and there will be a proceeding where judge will decide if they can be released because unlike in adult court juveniles are not entitled to bail they can be kept in custody while the case proceeds. Either way you get to court, you are going to go to court, you are going to have lawyer whether or not you assign a lawyer or a public defender is appointed for your child and the court process will then occur the charges will be brought and they will either go to trial on these charges or there will be some sort of a disposition. In rare cases, the charges will be dismiss or either there will be some sort of a plea bargain with a sentence that follows. So, one of the main differences between minors who get charges, juveniles and are tried in juvenile court as supposed to adults who get charge and tried in adult court is juvenile are not entitled to get a jury trial. They are only entitled to a trial by a Judge, instead of 12 people having to come to a unanimous verdict before you can be found guilty, one person a Judge can find you guilty and pronounce sentence on you. And that is one of the major disadvantages in my opinion of being charged in Juvenile court.
