Our relationship with technology is becoming more and more addictive and more and more dangerous. Even though technology has been absolutely wonderful in terms of everything it has given us and the way it has democratized communication and connected us with each other, the hyperconnectivity to technology is becoming truly pathological for many people. At the Huffington Post we launched a dedicated section called Screen Sense, helping parents navigate their children’s relationship to screens. Because we’ve all seen children that are having a hard time communicating with others and are much more comfortable texting or being buried in their smart phones. And increasingly pediatricians are recommending that we don’t given screens to very young children. Not before they learn to communicate with each other and connect with themselves too. So I feel it’s critical to educate our children, to have boundaries around technology. I mean, we’ve had a long-term boundary around no devices at dinner for example. And to make sure that our children have a lot of other ways to interact with each other and with the world.
