It is never too late to teach your baby, infant or toddler to sign. You can start signing any time. Sign language is a really good way to bridge the gap between spoken language and literacy development. So when you start reading books to your baby, you can start signing all of the different book signs like bear or helicopter, airplane. You can also start signing I love you to your baby just for fun and for a secret way to tell your baby or toddler that you love them without actually saying it out loud.

Heather graduated from San Francisco State University with a Bachelor of Arts in Linguistics and Special Education in 2007 and is currently pursuing her Masters of Science in Communicative Disorders and Sciences at California State University, Northridge. Heather began learning ASL in college, and has volunteered for an inclusion class for Deaf/Hard of Hearing and Multiple Disabilities at the elementary school level, where she also worked as an interpreter.
