Narrating to your toddler is also very important in building your relationship and preparing them for what is coming next. When we narrate to a toddler, we tell them the plan. We tell them what's coming next. We are telling them what they are experience. This gives them the respect that they deserve, but it also helps them with transition. As toddlers are becoming increasingly autonomous with their own ideas of where they want to go and as toddlers are driven toward power and control, it is helpful for them to have that information; so they can make the transition and encourage cooperation, thereby, avoiding power struggles.
