When we think about happiness we think about what is it that makes us happy and how can we raise happy children? Well, one thing is to consider gratitude. What am I grateful for and how do I express that? Because, for instance, if you’ve just cooked a lovely meal and your children, or your partner, or husband says, “Wow, that was good,” you feel good and it makes you happy. So think about how you’re teaching your children about gratitude. One way is every night at dinner time go around the table and say one thing that you’re grateful for – it’s practicing gratitude. Sometimes we need to practice things, like a skill, that may not come automatically. For some families, they have a little jar and they write down things they’re grateful for and then at the end of the week they read them. Let your children hear you being grateful and also teach them how to be grateful. And do things in the world that also bring out your generosity, so other people can be grateful to you as well. It’s a way to enjoy life and increase your happiness.
