Effects of yelling at children

Some parents are worried that they’re yelling so much that it could be damaging their child and I want to say that if you ask children, they’ll often tell you the one thing they wish their parents would do less of is yell. A little yelling once in a while is not going to damage your child. And a lot depends on what else you do and all the positive things you’re doing as a parent. But if you find that you’re yelling every day and your yelling is getting more intense, then you do need some help. And the first step is to stop and think about what’s going on for me? Because if you take care of yourself, that will translate into your child being happier and being healthier. So get a handle on your yelling. Find out why you’re yelling. Get support from friend. If you need to, go to a therapist. Try a mindfulness class. Because a yelling parent will be a parent who a child tunes out. And you want to have fun with your kids and enjoy them. You can yell less.
