I developed an intervention from my book called The Wrap My Feelings, which helps the parent connect with their child’s anger and gives the child an opportunity to express and acknowledge and release that pent up anger that they may be holding inside themselves. So, the child constructs a volcano out of clay. There’s an internal flask that's going to hold the vinegar and the baking soda. There are strips of paper that the child can write their thoughts, feelings. I also use popsicle sticks to represent people that came with faces. They write their feelings and thoughts on the pieces of paper. They put it in the volcano. They erupt the volcano and they see this process of recognizing feelings, having thoughts and releasing them in a positive way. The parent also has an opportunity to really understand “what is my child’s holding on to and what do I need to acknowledge also and understand and connect to?” So, it’s a great way for the child to learn how to cope with their anger and express it in a positive way.
