The two most important legal documents all families need, no matter what their income level is; a prenuptial agreement and an estate plan. A prenuptial agreement, so that they can work through their issues ahead of time so that, worst case scenario there is a divorce, it's not acrimonious. The second one, the estate plan, is possibly the most important when it comes to children. If something happens to both of you, you need to have a plan of who is going to get your children. That person needs to know ahead of time. You need to know that your money is going to be in trust and will be protected; that your kids and their caretaker will not be appointed by the Court, that the guardians won't be involved. They won't be having to go to Court and pay money to attorneys every time they need to do anything. So in a way, the less money you have, the more important it is because there is less to go around. And so, you're not only buying yourself piece of mind with these documents but you're protecting your family, and you're protecting what little money you do have.
