Knowing what to say or do to a friend who has lost a child is kind of a cataclysmic thing. It is very difficult to know what to say, often times. Really, the simplest lesson or message that people can take from this is just reach out and tell the person that you are thinking of them, you are very sorry for what has happened, and that you are there for them. That's the most important thing. Don't try to do too much. The biggest problem I came across with the loss of my daughter was that people tried to make it better. "Oh, you'll have more kids." "Your baby is with God now." "I lost my dog." That's horrible. Don't say any of those things. Just tell them that you are there for them, you love them and, you'll support them in any way. That's the biggest key. You are there for them, but don't try to fix this. You can't fix it.
