Many experts would agree that consistency is one of the keys to successful parenting. But what happens if up to a point you haven't been particularly consistent. Is all lost for your child? And the answer is no. You can pick a starting point where all caregivers get on the same page. Mom, dad, babysitter, grandma. Pick a point where you all come together and know what the consequences are going to be for specific misbehaviors. It may take a little while for your child to realize that every caregiver is going to give the same consequence for that misbehavior. But ultimately they'll get that message that you all mean business, and that from this day forward things in the house have changed. It may take a few weeks before your child really gets the message. But ultimately if you practice consistency and you all work together, you will learn how to do it and your child will learn as well.
