Pajama Gramma and her dog, Bo, live on the edge of the Affieland. Pajama Gramma is a wisdom character filled with unconditional love and patience. She is devoted to children. She writes books about Bo and their forest friends who live in Affieland.
Within her stories, she introduces affirmations to kids. She calls them "Affies". Pajama Gramma knows that positive self-talk helps children develop solid character strengths. Children can relate to the forest friends’ everyday adventures and along with the forest friends, kids learn to think of themselves as being a good friend, kind, smart, dependable, helpful, as making good choices, being good at sharing, etc. Pajama Gramma knows that when children see themselves in this way, they begin to project emotional security and positivity that others are drawn to. And along the way they develop the tools to flourish.
Children who use Affies become resilient. They are able to bounce back from difficulties life puts in their pathway. Pajama Gramma understands that children (all people, for that matter) are hard-wired to be happy. But today, with all the marketing directed at children, parents and teachers often see children who think they need another toy right now or need the attention from a parent or teacher, immediately, in order to feel happy. By developing their hard-wired inner-voice using positive self-talk, children begin to realize their happiness is on the inside instead of looking outside of themselves for satisfaction and well-being.
This simple mindset of a positive inner-voice helps kids self-regulate. It creates tolerance and patience, too. Their fears are minimized as they feel empowered by saying their Affies. The biggest benefit of all might be when kids understand they don’t need something or someone else to make them happy…because happiness and contentment is already one of their inner character strengths.
