GMO's in schools and what to do about it

We need to get rid of GMOs in the world; I'm not really sure that we haven't let the genie out of the bottle and it can never go back. But the question is why? Why do I care about GMOs, genetically modified organisms. This is a thing that didn't exist in nature; no mandatory testing, no mandatory labeling, we have no idea what these things that are man-made, chemically made, are going to do to our children's children children. The companies that produce GMOs, companies like Monsento and Dupont are chemical companies. They make stain resistant carpet and Agent Orange. Really? Are we gonna trust them with our children, trust them with our food? But because of politics, because of the government, there's no laws against genetically modified organisms and there's no labeling, so every single one of us, every person here watching us, has eaten a GMO today, because there's no labeling. Now if you only eat organic, because they're not allowed in, then maybe, but otherwise there are in two-thirds of all the items in grocery stores and I guarantee you, there's in school food and there's no way to tell. What we need in America is to have GMOs labelled so we, as parents and chefs and caregivers have a choice. And there is a program right now called Just Label It and we need to look at that, you need to learn about it, we need to demand the GMOs are labelled in this country and we have a choice of whether or not defeat them, and our kids. And you know what? They are labelled in France, they are labelled in Germany, they are labelled in a lot of other countries, they should be labeled here.

She is past president of The American Culinary Federation of Central Vermont, and past president and board member of Women's Chefs and Restaurateurs.
