Anti Thumb Sucking Appliance?

Recently I saw a friend have one of these installed on her daughter who is going into 3rd grade by the dentist. I was shocked to even learn they had something like this. It had to be readjusted because the first time it did not stop her from sucking her thumb. Did anyone ever hear of this? What are your thoughts?

I have never heard of these! My daughter sucked her thumb until 2nd grade. I tried vinegar, a sticker chart, hot sauce...nothing worked until she was ready!

I never saw or heard of it either. I was kind of taken back by it. It looked very strange and like something that would not be promoted today. Who knows?

I've never heard of this either. Is it something that is obvious to someone just looking at the child?

You cannot see it from outside it is attached to her molars and is in the pallet area with a big white cylindar. It is supposedly very noisy when she eats.
