Do you do school pictures?

Posted September 22, 2015 - 9:04pm

My kids have school pictures tomorrow. I have no idea what they are going to wear or what package to buy. I used to take them to The Picture People before they were in school but now I feel like I should just let them get the school photos. I'm just never very prepared for this stuff. We haven't done a family photo in over 7 years and we only had 1 kid then — now we have 3! It's just so overwhelming to me to coordinate the whole family's outfits!

I love the tradition of those terrible school portraits. I always buy them and always put them in the same frame. We are really overdue for a family pic. The outfit thing is a bit overwhelming though.

I always do the school portraits and then put them in with our Christmas cards for family who is far away.

I buy the smallest, basic package, just so I have one. I'm really into photography and take a ton of pics of the kids that I really love and hang on the walls. I always want the class pic though so they will those to look back on.

I'm not a photographer but I do take a lot of pics of my kids.  I usually buy a small package too.  I'm horrible about even putting them into frames.  I have a huge stack of envelopes of portraits that need to be framed and hung.

You should make the family pic happen! You'll be glad you do. Don't worry about outfits, just print in black and white!

Oooh!  Good idea!  We actually had family pics done a couple of years ago but the photographer's memory card was corrupt so none of the photos were saved.  I still have a voucher to go back but my hubby always drags his feet and it stresses me out so I just haven't attempted it again but you're right.  I really need to just do it.  I've wanted a good family photograph for a really long time!

Black and white is genius and I agree...make the family pic happen.

Even though I have a full photography studio in my home as it is a very big passion of mine, I always do the school pictures. It is like a tradition. Family photos  I stress over even though I take them myself. Last year I made all 7 of us reindeer shirts lol, it was funny and then to coordinate everyone it gets harder and harder but I am always glad we do it.

Love it!  That reminds me, we did have a family photo with Santa two years ago — I forgot about that!

I love funny pics - last year I took a nice photo of us from the summer and used picmonkey to put santa beards and hats on us all for the christmas card. it was so funny!

This year it was no to school pictures.  I did order them all last year, and 2 of the 4 were horrible.  We got family portraits taken last March, so I past on school pictures this year.  I am strongly considering taking the kids to photo studio like Target and get them taken there.  Now I did get my oldests Senior pictures taken this year and spent too much on those.

We always go with the basic, cheap packet--or a single 8x10. It's a good momento. We only do the school photos at the beginning of the year...not the spring photos.

Our school doesn't do spring photos. Now I didn't do pictures with my 14, 11, or 9 year old, but my 3 year old is really wanting to get hers.  Think I'll get the smallest package for her since it is the first time she's been in school.

This is one of the things I feel we miss out on with homeschooling...but I guess I am always taking photos anyways.

Mommy Ramblings

I have a friend that homeschools and she is also a photographer and she does school pictures of her kids.

beachcitymom

Yes, I also know a photographer that does homeschool photos but she is a bit pricey. Not sure what the prices are in public school?

The black and white idea is great!

We don't have much money so I asked one of the photography students who is in high school if she would be willing to take our photo for a Christmas card. We went down to a local park that was wooded and the pictures turned out great.

That is actually a great idea!!
