Glad to Be on Board!

Posted August 21, 2015 - 6:32am

Hello!

My name is Tisha and I'm a mom of two girls, 11 and 8. My oldest, who's always been as sweet as pie, seems to be hitting puberty a little early, so I'm navigating some new parenting territory, with mood swings and the sudden need for independence. Looking forward to sharing and learning some tips from the other parents here!

Hello!I can relate. I have a 11-year-old boy, who (the past 3 months or so) thinks he is a Teen and can be very moody. It is new territory for me, as well. I am finding that it is the most challenging stage so far.

Amen! I always felt pretty capable and clever when my kids were smaller, and I had no problem handling any discipline challenges that came up, but THIS new stage...whew! It's really putting me to work, haha. Now I see what all those knowing little smiles were about from my older sisters and friends with older kids, when I would gush about how great and easy the kids were.

Yes, same here! I often question myself at this stage. Even though I used to work with teens and thought I understood them pretty well..it sure is different when the teen (or tween) is your own. :)

Welcome Tisha. Although both my kids are grown, I remember the tween/teen years with a vengeance. All I can say is just hang in there, keep respecting them, discipline with LOVE never anger & you'll all make it through. That & pick your battles. I gave up nagging my son to keep his room clean when there were so many more important things we had to deal with.

Hi! My girls are 9 and 5 and the 9 year-old is starting to act less like a sweet little girl and more like a moody emo teen. I also feel fairly unprepared for this stage!

Frugal Minded M...

I have an 11 year old girl too and between her and my 14 year old daughter there is always some emotional drama.

beachcitymom

yes..I can imagine the emotional drama...;)...I didn't think the mood swings started at 11..lol

Tisha, welcome! I have a 17 year old daughter who started her monthly cycle at 11 so I am completely familiar with mood swings and girls! Looking forward to seeing you on here :)

Welcome! Your children are the same age as my youngest two. Navigating the Moody River can be challenging...I'm sure we'll learn much from one another! Here's to the compass of calmer days!

OptimisticMommy

Welcome!  I can't wait to talk more through various conversations here on Kids in the House!

I know what you mean Courtney - it really does help to be able to talk things out with other moms and get those little reminders that no matter what the issue is or the ages of your kids, you're not alone and someone can relate.

Welcome Tisha, I'm relatively new here too!
