Potty training resistance - HELP!

Posted November 20, 2013 - 9:35pm
My son potty trained in 2 days at the age of 2.5. My daughter is now turning 3 in less than a month and she is 100% still in diapers. She refuses to go on the potty. I'm at my wit's end! She was going on the potty for a few days and doing great with it, but lost momentum (and has never even attempted #2, just peeing) and now doesn't want to even try. I've tried bribing her with rewards, putting her in undies so she feels herself getting wet, (gently) explaining to her that all her friends are out of diapers and she will be asked to stay in the younger class at preschool if she can't toilet train (all true), letting it go for a month to see if a no-pressure approach works... nothing helps. I don't know what to do and I'm worried she'll never get out of diapers! Any advice??

I am with you on this. I have a 2 year old that just doesn't want to. Some days she shows interestand other days she could care less. On the days she does show interest, she pees one time andthen she loses interest. I have tried the underwear thing and putting her on the potty when I go.I'm baffled at what to do. I am a 1st time parent, I am new to the whole potty training scene.I can use any tips as well.

Michelle, sounds like you're having a tough time. My husband and I are starting to discuss ways to potty train our daughter who will be turning two in just a couple of short weeks. We've heard that for boys, turning the process into a game can be beneficial (i.e.: putting cheerios in the toilet bowl and asking him to aim for the targets! haha). Perhaps a similar approach for a girl would work. Aim is obviously less important for girls but the idea of some sort of fun challenge could make the transition from diapers to the potty more enticing. Good luck!

The earliest I even tried with any of mine was about 2 weeks before they turned three.  When I did they were done in just a couple days.  So if she is just turning 3 I would stress out too much.  One of mine was 3 years 7 months when he got trained.
