What Are your Favorite Books to Read to Your Kids?

Posted September 11, 2015 - 8:58pm

What are your favorite books to read to your kids? I read Harry Potter to my 3 but we only got part way into the second book. My youngest just wasn't interested. I want to start another chapter book with them because I haven't read them one in a long time and need to get back into the habit. I loved to read as a kid and I want them to enjoy it too. I rarely have time to read anymore which is a bummer because it would be nice to model it for them. Just seems like such a luxury right now!

Mommy Ramblings

We love books, I read all kinds. We just started reading Appleblossom the Possum which is a novel for kids that is very interesting and cute. Of course we read the regular bedtime books too: Dr. Seuss is a favorite of course. As a blogger I get all the new kids books by the box full so we have a never ending supply. Add that to my life before blogging when my older three kids liked book stores better than toy stores and it is absolutely true I could open a library.

Oh!  I'll have to check out Appleblossom the Possum!  I also get lots of books to review though not usually chapter books.

Richard Scarry was always my favorite. I love his imagination. My daughter read most of the classics, the Little House books, Alice, etc. My son liked the Capt Underpants books. I thought some of it was crass. He also liked Goosebumps which I think are too scary. I still think Dr Suess are great.

When they were little we loved Junie B Jones, Would I Ever Lie To You, Snowmen at Night, Momma's Quick Little Chat and Little House on the Prairie. We just finished Circus Mirandus (which my kiddos and husband all loved). We are starting the Percy Jackson series. I also read with my oldest--he lives in another state and books keep us communicating--we just finished Great Expectations and are now getting ready to read Farewell to Arms.

Adding Circus Mirandus to my list!  Thanks!

I've been going the classic route. For chapter books we read Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, The Wizard of Oz, and are half way through Mr. Popper's Penguins. Stuart Little is up next.

I think Stuart Little was the first chapter book I read to my kids!  I like the classics too!

When my older girl was a new reader, we'd read the Magic Treehouse books out loud. But then she *really* got into reading and didn't have the patience for reading together out loud. With my younger girl, we read beginning reader books mostly. She loves the Pete the Cat books. They are pretty funny.

When my kids were young they loved Berenstain Bears. Even though they were written quite a while ago, they really are still relevant.

When my kids were older they really enjoy the Humprey series. The World According to Humphrey, School According to Humphrey....He is a hamster that lives in a classroom. Great for K to 3rd grade or so. Also, the Wimpy Kid series was fun for my son and the Rainbow Fairies for my daughter.
