What are your thoughts on vaccines?

Posted August 25, 2015 - 10:04am

Are you secure following the regular vaccination schedule. Do you want to delay or eliminate some? Are you not vaccinating? I would love to know where you stand.

That's a tricky one. I would have to do more research to form my opinion. We had vaccines when I was a kid, but I do remember getting the mumps anyway. Hmmm. We also have a lot of cancer in our family. Almost all the women have had it in one form or another. Two died from it. I don't know if vaccines would cause that. My kids never had any of the usual childhood diseases & they had all the vaccines because they've been required by their schools.

My kids do get all their vaccines (except HPV), but I don't exactly follow the routine schedule.  Since they are home with me and are nursing, I wait until they are 4 month to start shots.  Then I wait until they are 2 for the measles shot.  I had a pediatrician tell me with my first, that the reason they link autism with measles is because between 12 months and 2 is when autism is usually diagnosed.  So to take any chances I wait until 2.  I also seperate the measles and chicken pox shot because one of my kids developed a rash after getting the shots and we weren't sure which caused it.

We believe in vaccines. We ask questions, read and research and disccuss with our pediatrician our concerns.

I believe in vaccines as well as doing my research. It is very true that the autism diagnoses coincides with the MMR vaccine. I have delayed vaccines but I believe in them and am thankful that we have them.

I am definitely thankful for them too and the diseases they prevent.  There was one shot that my older four didn't get as babies.  I think it was called for Prevnar for menegitis, but when my youngest had menigitis at 2 days old I definitely was going to do anything to prevent it again.

I am a believer in vaccines. I feel a little nervous when children at my school have an exemption and haven't been vaccinated. That may be an unfounded fear, but for my own children I always thought it was best to protect them.

Frugal Minded mom - that must have been so scary for you all. Did everything turn out ok?

Fortunately yes.  We ended up in the hospital for 8 days, but it wasn't bacterial and there were no lasting side effects.
