Infertility is stressful by itself. In fact, we always say that infertility causes infertility, and the reasons being is a very stressful situation. And, one of the things why it's so stressful is because it's uncertainty. There's a lot of uncertainty surrounds when am I going to get pregnant. You don't have a crystal ball. It's so hard to see when you're going to get pregnant. In fact, when you try so hard, sometimes you fail. For example, when you go for insemination or IVF treatments, at the end of the day, you fail, and that's miserable. That's really hard to take. It's very different like a work project. You put in A, you're going to get B out of it. Or, you can put in A, you can put in B, you get nothing out of it at the end, so it's a very difficult process.
I usually advise my patients to first have a plan. You cannot control the outcome, but you can control the process. You can make the process work better, so have some kind of plan. For example, okay, I want to try to get pregnant. Talk to a professional. Talk to someone who works in the reproductive medicine field and try to figure out and map out a journey. Okay, I'm going to try and get pregnant naturally for the next six months, or the next three months, is that advisable. What do I have to do for that few months I'm trying to get pregnant? Should I try acupuncture? Should I try herbs? Should I do some exercise? What do I have to do? What should my husband, or what should my partner, do? Those are the kinds of things that a professional can help to kind of map a journey.
Then, after that, if that doesn't work out, what do you do next? Do I do insemination? How many inseminations should I do before I go to IVF? Should I go straight to IVF? Depends on her condition or his condition. So, those kind of things, that's what I do. As a professional, I help couple, I help a person to really map out their journey. You can really map out and control that journey a litle bit. Once you have some idea where you're going, that's kind of helpful, so that even you might have disappointment along the way, at least you'll have the process that you're still working toward.
