There are many different methods of comforting a baby to sleep and I highly recommend using whatever works for you for the first four months because a baby is not able to self soothe because he is not developmentally able to do that before four months. And some of them are rocking, cuddling, holding, bouncing on a jumpy ball. Some conventional ways are driving them around in the car, taking them for a walk in the stroller, which I don´t highly recommend because nobody really wants to be doing those at midnight or two am when your baby wakes up in the middle of the night. Just when you are choosing the way that you are going to soothe your baby, just make sure you are comfortable doing that all throughout the night time because they won´t be able the way they go to sleep in the beginning of the night, so you will have to recreate it for them.
