Providing structure for a disabled child is in my opinion more important even than it would for our other daughter. The reason I say that is a kid with disabilities relies on structure, one form, on sameness. We have modified our home so that there are schemata. My wife actually made color coded and picture calendars. In the shower, I put up laminated animations or illustrations of the order in which our daughter will go through her shower. Things like this give her solace and freedom so that she can preform tasks that you and I would take for granted without the emotional chaos that I imagine she would normally go through.
