Teachers are reporting that kids' writing skills are suffering as a result of using too many texting abbreviations and internet slang. I think what's really important for parents to understand is that they should be modelling good digital behavior and good responsibility and habits with their digital devices. Show your kid that there's really an appropriate medium to use for every type of conversation. If you've got into a fight with your friend, that's not a time to send a text, that's the time to have a face to face conversation with your friend and explain the situation. I think it's really important for parents to understand that they need to model good digital habits for their kids. A lot of time these parents : "We want to get away with texting a friend to decline an invitation" but it's important for your kids to see you make that call or visit your neighbor and model good digital behavior.
