When our family plans road trips, we like to get the whole family involved, so even the little guys, we ask them, "Where would you like to go, and what would you like to do?" Now, of course, we don't weigh their opinions as heavily as what our bank account says we can do, but we really do want to have everybody involved, because that makes it more fun, it makes it more realistic. It helps us hear from them what they would really like to do, and then we can voice back to them what we, as parents, would like to do. So we get the whole team involved, and we also think through, both how we can be spontaneous, and how we can really be a little more structured and focused so that we can save money, save time, things like that. We plan way in advance a lot of times on larger family trips, so like a week or more. We give ourselves several months in advance so that we can save money on hotel, or lodging and flights, but then we leave lots of room for spontaneity so we don't really plan every single day of what we're going to do. We wait till the day before to see what the weather is like, to see what mood we're in, things like that. So we balance out our need to structure and plan our time well with a lot of just room for playing and spontaneity. The other thing we do is consider a lot of lesser known places; places that are sort of hole-in-the wall places or just lesser known small towns because those, sometimes are the most fun places, especially with small kids because it's just a lot of those little everyday things like restaurants and parks and things like that, that can be just as fun for our family with a lot less money spent.

She is currently working on her next book. Tsh and her nomadic family currently live in Bend, Oregon, but several dots around the globe have also been called home (her 7-year-old has been on 60 airplanes and counting). Together, they love to travel, read books, go camping, and make homemade pizza for Friday Family Movie Night.
