There are many steps that people can take to get into a greener lifestyle. I’ll give you 5 simple ones that are very cost-effective, that someone on any budget could do. #1 Change your lighting. Get energy efficient light bulbs and put them up around the house. They’re getting quite inexpensive now. You can go to different hardware stores and box stores and you can get very inexpensive energy efficient light bulbs. Energy saving thermostat would be #2. Put that up, and also, don’t just put it up and install it if you’re handy or you get someone to do it if you’re not handy enough to do it, but make sure you program it to your lifestyle for wake and sleep, leave and return modes. Then it’ll really work well. #3 would be, put up some weather stripping around your house, around your doors and windows. That’ll really save a lot of energy. Summer or winter, heating or cooling, you’ll save electricity or natural gas, whatever your power source is. #4 would be get out of your car as much as possible. By that I mean ride a bike, if weather and fitness permit, take public transportation if it’s available near you. And #5 would be, attack the vampire power in your house, the Phantom Power, power that you don’t need when you’re asleep or out of the house. Put those things, you don’t need on when you’re asleep or out of the house, on power strips going around the house – 1,2,3 – maybe you have 2 or 3 of them in the whole house, and turn them off. You will save a lot of money and a lot of power.
