There’s a real focus on supporting our children and as parents to be able to provide them with as many opportunities and provide them with a greatest and richest opportunities in sport, school and whatever it is that the family structure values. Now there’s something that extreme athletes and adventure athletes have taught us which is that there’s many ways that become great at what we do. And it’s really important to be reminded of the importance of nature teaching us. And so as parents we in urban life, we want to be able to show for and create all of the elimination of red tape so that the athlete can just go out there and figure out who they are and get good at something. That’s a bit misguided, well some of that is really important and I don’t want to understate the really importance of parents working from the background to be able to support and help their children become. But there’s another thing that action sports athletes have reminded us which is that nature and the experience in ourselves is really important. And there’s so many pathways to becoming masterful at a craft. Everything from hockey players, world class hockey players that just grow up on a pond and their parents said, hey, we need you to come in for dinner; meaning that they were pulling them away from the sport not pushing them into it. Two artist who not just relentlessly spent time drawing and drawing and drawing it’s within them to do that and the parents not having them to cultivate it, it’s just naturally happening. So as parents we want to be mindful. We want to be mindful of what the children that were tending to are drawn toward. And we also want to be mindful of the natural experiences that take place in nature because nature is a very powerful teacher. And if we can structure our environment in ways that are align how nature works which is there is consistency, there’s unpredictability, there is consequences that are real and it forces us to be as people and as children to be fully alive and engaged when we’re not sure quite how it’s going to go but we also have a sense that it’s important to be fully connected. So , what that means for parents; is that there’s many ways to help support our children toward mastery and we can take a breath, we can take a little bit of pause and just know that it really got to start from the person and not from our efforts cutting from the red tape.
