What preemptive measures should parents take to ensure their children's safety? Every parent's worst nightmare is to have their child stolen in the night. That very, very rarely happens, but that doesn't mean that parents shouldn't be prepared. Obviously they should have an ongoing dialogue with their child so that their children understand that they shouldn't voluntarily go with some stranger in the night. But beyond that, they should have identifying information for their child. They should have their child's fingerprints, they should have an updated photograph of their child all in one place. They should have an emergency plan. What are you going to do in case your child disappears? Who do you contact and in what order do you contact them? If you have all of this information together and there is that emergency, you're going to save yourself an awful amount of time once you call 9-1-1 and contact them, because you will have the critical information that you need at your fingertips at your fingertips.

Mr. Klaas travels extensively through the United States facilitating child safety events, encouraging innovative solutions and proven programs that positively impact crime, abuse and neglect that plague children in so many of our communities. He also counsels and advises numerous victim families and families of kidnapped children.
