Transcription:
Elimination communication, which is commonly called EC, is very different from what we as westerners believe to be potty training. It actually is not potty training at all. We can start EC with our child from as early as a couple of hours after they are born. The same way that our babies tell us they are hungry or tired, our babies also tell us when they need to eliminate. We have just gotten so used to our children being in diapers, that we are completely out of tune with those messages they are sending us.

Mandy Schutt

Doula & Hypnosis Instructor

Mandy Schutt was backpacking around the world when she decided that she wanted to become a doula. As she floated through the Amazon Pampas with two European midwives, she was immediately captivated by their birth stories and the culture of womanhood that they spoke of. Traveling on through South America, Europe, and Asia, she was able to witness motherhood in a different light than she had before. When she ran across the term, "doula" for the first time, she knew this was a name she wanted to claim for herself!

Mandy looks at a woman's ability to grow another life inside of her as nothing short of a miracle. She supports women in their efforts to discover this for themselves and know that the act of giving birth is more than just an isolated event in a mother's life, it is realization of an empowerment that many never realized existed. She gave birth to her daughter in 2009, which was the single most amazing event of her life. Mandy believes that women should birth where and how they are the most comfortable and secure. Her safe place was in her home with a midwife, her husband, a doula, hypnosis, and a gorgeous pool of pain-dissolving water!
