I found that not working when my children were very young, the benefits were huge, countless. I didn't want to work during their formative years because I didn't want to miss their milestones. Their first steps, their first words, their first laugh; all of those things that you can never get the essence of from a video tape. As a former educator, I had many tools under my belt to help my children during those really crucial years. I didn't want to put that on somebody else that I did not know, somebody else whose skills I wasn't sure of. I wanted to be the one who was there to set the foundation for the rest of their life.
