All dads that I've talked to -- and I think I can say all dads -- are looking for ways to connect with their kids and to bond with their kids, to spend more time with their kids. One of the most overlooked areas is the school. You drop them off there. You pick them up there. You may have nothing to do with it in between. If you were able to take even an hour a week and volunteer, that could be handing out papers or grading papers or talking about what it is you do for your job; it doesn't matter what it is. To volunteer in your child's school, you will get so much out of this, and your child will get so much out of it. I can tell you from having done this for years and years with my kids, there is nothing like the beaming, proud look you are going to get from your child when daddy walks in and everybody knows your name and they come running over to you. That makes your child feel so important, so good. Also, there's the other side of this, which is, you are telling the school and the teaching staff and everybody else, that men actually do care. One of the things you will find is that you're, pretty much, the only guy who is doing it. A lot of people don't see why guys are there. They don't see guys there at all. So showing the teachers, the administrators, the principals that men care, and that's a very, very important thing. Then, also showing the other kids in the room. Again, there's not so many father's doing this. Dad's care. They really do want to be involved. You are making an impression on your child, but also on the other children. Another interesting thing about this is, when you are getting involved in your child's school and the PTA, school that have more fathers participating, actually perform better in the standardized tests.
