I think it is a good idea for only children to know other only children so they don´t feel quite as exceptional. But the fact that there are so many only children right now, I think that happens naturally. I think it is really important for kids to pick their own friends and to have a real, authentic connection with other children. It helps if you like their parents I have found. It needs to be the whole family that you want to hang out with often if you are going to spend a lot of time with another family or with another family´s child. But I do think that you have really got to be led by your child in that situation and your child´s own emotional connections and interests, who your kids wants to be silly with, who your kids feels like confiding in and really trust that your child knows, especially at younger ages who they want to make their own chosen family.
