Transcription:
We really begin to honor a child before they even come into the world, and so in our tribal traditions, we have what we call a "welcoming in the womb ceremony." So when we know that a young woman is pregnant and going to have a child, we have this ceremony, and in the ceremonies there are a couple of things that take place. One is that it's really is about honoring the mother herself, and making sure that she has what she needs, but it's also about encouraging that new life to come, and so in this ceremony, we speak to that new child; we encourage that child's appearance. We talk about what supports we are going to be able to give that child and how we want them to come and join us on this earth-walk.
