Pretty much every child that is bilingual will go through the famous rebellion stage. They are going to rebel against their parents. That's really pretty normal and in a child's nature.
What happens is that they know that this is something that's very important to you. I speak Spanish to my daughter since she was born. One day, she was four, we had a little fight and she was mad at me. I was in the car speaking Spanish to her and she turned to me and said, "I only speak English." She told me that in Spanish.
She was just very mad. She knew that it was something that was important to me. Why? Because I realized that I had been pushing Spanish on her because she was responding to me in English. I was pushing it and she realized it was something that mattered to me. I realized, at that moment, in talking to other parents, that when a child rebels and doesn't want to learn the language; that's when you have to go back to just speaking to them coming from a place where it is fun.
