The Autism diagnosis was much harder for my husband to accept, than for me.
Early on, my husband kept saying, "He's just a boy. He's just a wild boy. There's nothing wrong with him." I kept going all along going, "Nope. Something's not all right." Immediately when I noticed something was not right, I wanted to fix it. I wanted therapy. I wanted to talk to people, that's all I want to do. I wanted him to support me in this. Meanwhile, he just wanted to have a boy that he could play with and could be normal with.
Eventually, we got to the point where a book was recommended to my husband called, "Not My Boy," by Rodney Pete. He read the book and noticed how Rodney Pete went along the same way, "He's just a boy. There's nothing wrong with him." And then his journey through the autism diagnosis. At that point, my husband was like, "Okay. This is what we are going to do." He got right on board. There was a beautiful ending to that.
