That often happens where the parents will not accept the fact that their child is a bully. In our work, we do a lot of mediating with parents and schools because there are parents of course that wanted to talk to the schools and let them know what's going on but they're very emotional and rightly so, their child has been wounded because for many kids going to school is a daily nightmare. There is this one particular situation where the school had just installed some very sophisticated cameras and they caught on camera two boys pummeling one boy, just really letting him have it. So, the school administrator called the two parents and ask me to be present as well. One set of parents, very remorseful. They were amazing, very apologetic but the second set of parents said, "That's not my son." We're looking at the video. "That's not my son." I said, "Let's just run it one more time." No, they were adamant. "That's not my son." I said. "Well, if that's the case, we better call the police and children say because we have a child in the school that doesn't belong to anyone." So, when we talk about silence and denial among children, they have the role models as well many times. And in the end, it was resolved and yes, it was definitely their son but their shame and blame are attached to it as well. So often, parents had a very hard time with it. It's really in parents best interest to learn how to recognize the signs of bullying and how to help their child safely.
