The important of standardized tests really depends on the college. There are over 1300 colleges that don't even require the test. And yet the most selective schools really take a look at them. What I like to say is don't get really stressed out about these tests. What you should do is prepare yourself. You should study for them and do the best you can. It's not the most important part of the application process. It's only one part. And the best way to prepare for these tests is really to take practice tests. So whether you have a class or a tutor or you're studying on your own, the more you get familiar with the way the ACT and the SAT is formatted, the more practice you have at it, the more familiar and comfortable you're going to be. So it's not fun to study for these tests, but if you take 6-8 weeks, and you take practice test after practice test, and you look at the mistakes you make and look at the right answers, you're going to start to see what kind of trends and what kind of questions they ask, and your score will go naturally up.
