The teen years for girls is a time to increase their independence and to experiment with who they are. Parents may notice behaviors such as changing their appearance, or getting pierced ears, pink hair, and they may try different trends. Just as in the preteen years, they are going pull away from their families. They might believe that parents are, kind of, clueless of everything. You might notice them being dismissive of you and argumentative with you. That's normal. Parents will also notice that teen girls may increase in their risky behaviors and limits testing. They may show up late to class or tell their parents lies. This is the way they can learn how far they can push and what are their limits in the world. Teen girls need their parents to be the loving anchor at home for them that remains calm and teaches them how to deal with all these big things and big feelings; so that they can become a grownup.
