The impact of media that is not age-appropriate

When children watch content that's not age appropriate, a lot of things can happen depending on the child. One thing is they can sleep badly, because they're scared. Or they're anxious. They may get exposed to content that's inappropriate, sexuality that's inappropriate. Situations that may reflect their own lives. There may be swearing or alcohol, drug abuse. Things that are not really to deal with, developmentally and emotionally. And that will have consequences often in their lives, where the television or the content is off. So, choosing age appropriate content for your child is very important. And, as a parent, it's important for you to take the time to look and see what's in a movie, a television show. Even a book. Some kids read Hunger Games before they were ready. So, one of a great source for parents is Common Sense Media. They have 18.000 reviews on their site. It's a free resource. And it will tell you exactly what's in the content. It will tell you about what age a child should be ready for it. There are kids that are allowed to weigh in on what age they think it's okay. And parents also weigh in. It's an incredible resource for parents. And it's all free.
