Transcription:
Pacifiers are a wonderful tool in the first year of life for babies, as they help the baby to self-soothe and organize their nervous system. However, at some point, pacifiers can often become problematic with sleep and behavior. I think the window to get rid of the pacifier is typically around one. However, many wait until 18 to 36 months. When parents practice discernment in the first year, by not automatically offering the pacifier when the baby cries, but offering other forms of comfort as well as the pacifier. Try to limit the pacifier to the crib and for sleep, it makes this transition when they turn one, much easier. When it's time to say goodbye to the pacifier, parents need to tell the child that it's time to say goodbye and you know that they can get something new. They can hold their blankie and their furry friend, parents will always be there for them. I do encourage parents to trust that children are resilient and will not be traumatized by you taking away the pacifier.
